The first 20% of this book is so slow. Okay, if I'm being completely honest, the entire book is a bit slow. As I started reading, I was really disappointed with the writing. I couldn't understand why an author would leave out so many details. There were so many blanks all I could think was, "Come on! Writing 101...we need details!" But as the story unwound, the details were very slowly filled in. The author doles them out slowly and methodically. The story is told from the perspective of three characters: Summer/Lily, Colin/Clover, and Lewis. The timeline also bounces around quite a bit, but it's easy to follow as everything is clearly titled. The differing perspective definitely gives the book some depth, but again, it just never quite came together for me.I felt like it dragged on and on and on, with certain things--important things-- glossed over. The ending was so abrupt, I actually thought I was missing pages.I'll probably read the sequel since it's free on Wattpad, but overall, I found this to be a very average story. It's a shame because there is so much potential. It just never fulminated.
Book #42 Read in 2017The Cellar by Natasha PrestonThis was a creepy good read. Summer is kidnapped by a man who calls himself "Clover". He renames Summer as Lily to go with his other "flowers": Rose, Poppy and Violet--three more girls he has kidnapped and keeps in his cellar. His goal is to keep his "family" together forever. Sometimes, he brings girls off the streets into the cellar to kill them to rid the world of some evil. Summer's family and boyfriend continue to look for her in the hopes of finding her alive. Will they do so in time? A sequel to this book, which I already ordered, is coming out next year. High school and adult readers alike will enjoy this gripping thriller.
Just wow. This is definitely different. I don't want to give anything away but this book got my attention. I actually grew feelings for the characters in the Cellar. A must read. As in my headline - I will never look at Flowers the same .
Eh, this book was just ok. It had no plot twists whatsoever, and it was so predictable. I just feel like this book could have been so much better. Maybe for a teenager this might be considered “good†but as a 32 yo woman who reads a lot, I felt like this book was dull and immature.
This is one of those books that pull you in with the first chapter. I felt compelled to keep reading up until the last minute I had to walk into work each day. Not being a terribly fast reader and having two kids five and three years old, I never find time to read except in my car before work or right before bed. Even being exhausted after a long day I would squeeze in a chapter and feel utterly guilty that I left the main character to deal with her kidnapper alone when I had to put the book down and pass out. There wasn't a moment I wanted to stop reading or was even the slightest bit bored. I highly recommend this book. So many emotions will escape from you...fear, guilt, sadness and definitely anger and disgust. Very well written.
I was reccomended this book by a friend that has the same reading taste as me. The book is very dark, and sort of pulled me into a certain mindset during the time I was reading it. It was suprisingly very educational. I learned to be careful, espiecally since I am a young girl, and how scary the world can be. It was not all sad and scary, though. I will not spoil it, though dont worry. I really enjoyed this book but I do think you have to go into reading it prepared and knowing what to expect. It spoke largely of what females have to endure just because they are females. I wish for everyone to read this book, whether they like it or not, to erase ignorance. 10/10 for me. I may read it again.
You need a good spine tingling, brain itch inducing, psychological thriller? Look no further! I loved the way it was laid out, making me wanna read faster and faster to the end, which I have to say, sadly, left me a little flat, or this would be five stars...the ending just seemed to come too quickly, lacked detail, and just handed to readers all tied neatly tied up in a bow, with flowers, and seemed too rushed, but overall, a good book with some great plot twists, but without a lot of graphic description of certain events, but spot on in descriptions of others....
What a great book! I started this book yesterday and just finished it. I read it in the car, I read doing dishes, I read it in bed. I just couldn't stop reading this book! The torment these girls went through, living day to day as if it was going to be their last, and the psychopath who held them? I don't want to say to much more for fear of spoilers. I will say this last thing, her boyfriend was very determined.....Great Read!Kudos Ms Preston
